Monogatari Watch Order
The Monogatari series is famous for its tangled timeline. The good news: for a first watch you should simply follow release order — that is the order the story was designed to unfold in.
Recommended order
Watch in release (broadcast) order. The series deliberately withholds and later recontextualises information; release order is how the author paces those reveals. A strict chronological order exists but reshuffles arcs in ways that spoil later twists, so we don’t recommend it for a first watch.

FAQ
What order should I watch Monogatari in?
Release (broadcast) order, starting with Bakemonogatari. The story is written to reveal information in that sequence, so release order gives you the intended experience.
When should I watch Kizumonogatari?
Kizumonogatari is a prequel and chronologically first, but for a first watch it lands best after you already know the characters — watching it around the mid-to-late point of release order is a common, safe choice.
Should I watch Monogatari in chronological order?
Not for a first watch. Chronological order rearranges arcs in ways that undercut later reveals. Save it for a rewatch if you’re curious.
Watch orders are hand-written and reviewed editorially; fans disagree on some franchises.
