A knight of France's ordinance cavalry. He and Garfa duel after Garfa bedded Eugenie, Jean's lover. [spoiler]Jean kills himself following his defeat at the duel, the shame he suffered and the ridicule from his comrades drove him to suicide.[/spoiler]
